"And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; to be taxed with Mary, his espoused wife, being great with child.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And as we know, the baby was born in a lowly estate, where oxen and cattle were feeding.
What child is this whose humble birth caused an angel to appear to the shepherds while they were in the fields watching their flocks that night telling them “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.” For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”
What child is this whose divine earthly purpose had long been foretold by wise prophets and heavenly angels?
What child is this who was born on a holy night and peacefully slept while angels sang heavenly anthems for the waiting shepherds - as a bright star lead the Wiseman to their King?
This child brings with Him hope; for the weary world is now able to rejoice at His arrival.
This child brings with Him salvation and redemption. His earthly mission will be a perfect one of teaching patience, forgiveness, peace and love. He will heal the sick, raise the dead and atone for our sins and open the door for us to return to live with our Father. He will be an example in all he does. Long after His crucifixion, the world will continue to celebrate His life.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
What child is this?
This child is the King of Kings. He is Jesus the Christ, the Son of God. He is the light of the world. He is our Lord, our Redeemer, our Savior, our brother and our friend."
Merry Christmas!
