92/365 - Stocking up...

Guess what's on sale this week at the grocery store...

Yeah. It's a little embarrassing to have so many 12 packs of soda that the stacks begin to lean. They're safely tucked away in the garage. Obviously, we drink a lot.

I know, I know... please don't send me any emails or forward me anything about how diet soda will kill me. I already know it will. Kill. Me. Dead. But, at least I'll die refreshed, thirst-free, and happy. They may even be able to use less formaldehyde during the embalming process, which will save money on funeral expenses. Who knows! All I know is that we are set with drinks for a week or two... until the Diet Mt. Dew goes on sale. Then I'll need to go stock up on that for Ken because the Dew stack is looking pretty sparse.

91/365 - Two more days...

Only two more days until summer school is over and my summer vacation begins. Woohoo! The extra month of work hasn't killed me, but I am ready for a break (and so are my little students). I plan on  sleeping in EVERY day next week and doing a lot of nothing, just so you know!

90/365 - Ken just couldn't wait...

Ken came home from work tonight with this...

... a bag full of fireworks.
It's a few days too early to be lighting them off  legally (oh geez, we're going to jail) but Ken was adamant we lit them off tonight. So, we did. I'm sure we woke up a few of the neighbors while we were at it.

We thought this one looked like the Jiffy Pop popcorn foil thing. Do you know the one I'm talking  about?

It was a little windy. Ken had to very carefully (and illegally) light them.

After it was all said and done, everything got kicked into the running sprinkling system and gutter full of water. One never can be too sure when lighting fireworks illegally...

So, assuming we're not arrested tonight for breaking the law (um, officer... Ken bought them and lit them all by himself... NOT me!) I will post again tomorrow.

89/365 - Eleven Months...

We've been married for eleven months today.
Okay, so it's not a huge milestone but it is blog worthy and worth mentioning. Happy eleven months to us!

88/365 - Cleaning out Ken's pockets...

I do laundry throughout the week, but Saturday is always my "catch up" day. I finish off everything in the laundry baskets so they're empty for another week. I like doing laundry. I really do. It doesn't bother me at all and the fact that the laundry room is right off of our bedroom, it makes the job even easier.

Yesterday, Ken had a lot of clothes on the shelf above his side of the closet. I gathered them up to put them into the wash but decided to check Ken's pockets first. I've blogged about that topic before and you can read it here. Ken keeps a lot of "stuff" in his pockets. So, I began to remove everything from his pants.

Here is a picture of our dresser after I got everything out of his pockets. I did not alter or rearrange anything prior to my taking a picture, FYI.

This is my side of the dresser. Aside from the decorative junk, there is a headband and the remote control for the stereo.

This is Ken's side. Besides the decorative junk and his hat, everything else was stuff I rescued from out of his pants pockets.

I seriously do not know how he crams that much stuff in there. Oh well. I'm the one that decided to wash the pants before Ken had a chance to go through the pockets himself. But still... that's more stuff than I have in my purse! But here is the difference... you'll find money in Ken's pockets, but you won't find any in my purse!!

87/365 - One Comfy Dog...

Ken and I were watching t.v. the other night when we looked down and we saw this...

One tired little Tank using his stuffed duck toy as a pillow. I am sorry to blog about my dog but that is the cutest thing I've seen in a while!

86/365 - Oh, Marilyn...

Did you see on the news or read online how much Marilyn Monroe's infamous air blown white dress sold for?

A whopping $4.6 Million.
Yikes! That's some purchase, folks.

Since we're briefly on the topic of Ms. Monroe, here are my top two favorite Marilyn quotes...

85/365 - I Found Them!

Let me set one thing straight.
I love Costco's churros.
You know, the ones they sell at their food court.
(or Cafe' Costco as we've determined)
Yep. I sure do.
I've always heard that you can buy them there in the freezer section, but I've never seen them. Well, today Ken and I went there. We actually went there only to grab lunch. Where else can you get 2 hot dogs, a piece of pizza, 2 drinks and 2 churros for under eight bucks? Nowhere, I tell you. While we were there, I asked someone about where they stash the churros. It turns out that you have to ask for them, and a happy little Costco employee will go into the freezer and get you some. They're not on display. So, while we were there, we bought some!

Yes siree! 54 delicious churros.

We even laughed because inside the box they include the individual paper wrappers.

Happy, happy moment. We have 3 bags of these lovely twisty delights.

I could host a churro party. Seriously, if you have a hankering for a crispy cinnamon sugar treat then make your way on over to our house. We have enough to share.

84/365 - Obviously bored...

I got looking at my arm the other night.

I noticed that I had freckles that pretty much made the shape of the big dipper. Oh yeah. Pretty great stuff.

83/365 - It didn't hurt to ask...

We have Dish Network at our house.
I've had Dish for about 4 years.
I initially had a few problems with them... well, with the installer. He fell through my ceiling and mounted the satellite on the side of the house wrong, all in one visit. Yep. I'm not joking at all. It all resulted in a $1600.00 ceiling makeover (paid by Dish) and a different guy coming out to reinstall the satellite. Aside from THAT, there hasn't been a problem. Ken and I were approached this weekend by a company who independently represents Direct TV, another satellite company. Their offer was pretty good. It was a monthly savings of about $40.00. We were tempted and met with the independent representative.

I called Dish Network to get our account information. I needed to know how much longer we were contracted for, and the charge if we chose to break the contract early. Of course the Dish Network phone representative wanted to talk to me - talk me into staying. I assured her we weren't canceling, but just looking into our options. She transferred me to an account representative anyway and the offers came in.

In the end, Dish Network took our monthly bill from $92.56 to $66.00 to get us to stay. I was amazed that a little poking and curiosity could actually lower our bill. I've heard of people lowering interest rates with a phone call, although that's never worked for me. So, I guess we're sticking with Dish Network and gloating about our lower monthly bill. Who knew a phone call could do that!

82/365 - How would they survive without us?

My husband doesn't NEED me. He really doesn't. He was 40 when we got married, so I know he can take care of himself. However, I have come to the "rescue" a few times. Like yesterday, for example. It was Father's Day but it was also Ken's day to go home teaching. Who wants to go or be visited on Father's Day? That's what we thought. No one, really. So, I said to Ken "why don't I just make a treat and a thought and you two can drop it off but not stay" to fix the home teaching issue. So I whipped up a treat and thought. How else is the job going to get done in a cute and delicious way??

I will have to share my grandma's recipe for Chocolate Caramel Brownies. They're pretty much to die for and they've NEVER EVER done me wrong!!

I'm kind of like a superhero. A "home teaching brownie making cellophane wrapping bow tying deep spiritual thought provoking" superhero. There! Make a me a cape.

81/365 - Waffles and Ties...

We didn't really celebrate Mother's Day. I didn't want to because I'm not a Mother. Ken called it "Happy 2nd Sunday in May" day and got me some balloons. It was sweet. So, we celebrated "Happy 3rd Sunday in June" day today. I got Ken a waffle maker. Yep. You read that right. A waffle maker. I thought we needed one, and celebrating the 3rd Sunday in June seemed like a good excuse to buy one to me. We decided to make belgian waffles for dinner tonight.

We made a caramel cinnamon drizzle for them and topped it off with whipped cream. Yeah... it was pretty much like eating cake for dinner. Don't worry though... I balanced it out with bacon and hash browns. Ha ha ha!

I also got Ken the "traditional" gift of a tie. The man only has 2 ties. I thought he could use another.

I don't think I did too bad. He wore it to church today and to the MTC tonight. I think I did pretty good, considering I've never chosen a tie for someone before. All in all, I think we had a pretty good 3rd Sunday in June.

80/365 - Birthdays and Father's Day...

This afternoon, my family got together for a joint family BBQ. We were celebrating Father's Day and two birthdays. One birthday for my nephew Wesley and niece Eryn. Of course, Ken was at work. It seems like he is always at work when everyone else can get together. We missed him but the fun went on.

Eryn kept putting herself in my parent's dog kennel. She was loving it.

The master griller himself - my brother Clint.

My grandparents surprised everyone by stopping by on their way from Las Vegas to Salt Lake for the summer. Here is my mom with her mom and my niece Eryn.

My grandpa.

Great-grandma reading to Jake and Eryn.

Eryn wore those toy binoculars for most of the day.

Ken and I got Wesley a book that he wanted...

...and got Eryn a Tangled doll.

All of the cousins!

Yum!

Wesley and Eryn are getting ready to blow out the candles.

I love that my family gets together as often as we do. I love having my family close together. Happy Father's Day!!
